THE DANGERS OF PATIO DOORS

Far too many Greyhounds have been seriously injured or tragically lost their lives after running into patio door glass.

We really cannot stress enough how important it is to make any glass doors or low windows clearly visible to your dog. (This is a requirement when rehoming a Greyhound from us.)

Many of you will already be aware of the dangers of patio doors and low glass, but Greyhounds can very easily injure themselves if they cannot clearly see the glass. This is why we ask adopters to fit stickers or window film to glass doors as part of our home check process.

Please do listen and take precautions to keep your dogs safe.

The first photo below shows the devastating damage caused after a Greyhound ran into patio door glass. The remaining photos are great examples of simple and effective ways to prevent this from happening.

Adhesive stickers and privacy films are widely available from hardware stores such as B&Q, as well as online from Amazon, Etsy and eBay.
(The Greyhound design stickers shown are from Etsy seller ZoomiesGB.)

Sadly, a Greyhound who had lived in a home for 5 years with no previous issues recently ran into patio door glass and was killed instantly.

Some people feel that nose prints on the glass or simply not cleaning the doors is enough to make the glass visible. While this may work in some situations, it is not something we would ever recommend relying on.

Please remember that Greyhounds can reach speeds of 35mph+ in just a few strides. The impact of hitting glass at that speed can be catastrophic - and completely preventable with something as simple as a few stickers or window film.

Please take a few minutes to check your home and make sure your hounds are safe 🖤
